Paintover from a quick 25 stint of sketching at Artis today. I want to take advantage of having a zoo so close by in the middle of the city. Tried a different, quicker way of layering the lights and shadows in Photoshop this time.
It has been so long since I went to sketch the animals at Artis! I was very rusty and only produced a couple pages which I wasn’t satisfied with. But I decided to try a quick paintover with the Cintiq, using photo ref for a color palette, and I think I was able to resurrect them a bit, at least.
We went to the zoo during our lunch break again today, and there is a new baby lion there now. It was constantly running around and playing with everything, and then it took a nap next to the mom and dad.
The Artis Zoo in Amsterdam is very close to the office, so yesterday I took a trip there during lunch with a couple of my coworkers. By the time I finished this croc it was already time to go back to work, but it felt like it was a very productive way to divert my eyes from the monitor for a while. Hopefully we’ll do this more often!
Finished up that vulture sketch (or rather, remade it) and had another productive trip today:
It was a rainy day in Holland but we still managed to go to the zoo for a few hours and sketch last sunday…. we were able to hide in the reptile house and the aquarium when it was pouring…. the final sketch isn’t completed due to the rain, but it can be finished next visit.
today we have sketches of lions, vultures, gopher turtles?, kaimen, and a frilled lizard
